Meeting Shanaya and GKTW

Some moments stay with you forever. Meeting Shanaya at Disney was one of those moments—beautiful, joyful, and deeply meaningful all at the same time.

Shanaya had traveled all the way from South Africa, becoming the first child we were able to meet from there, and it was an incredible honor to spend time with her and her family. Even though she was facing an incredibly difficult battle, Shanaya carried a spirit that was full of warmth, courage, and light.

When we met her at Disney, the magic of the park seemed to match the magic she carried within her. Surrounded by the excitement of the rides, the music, and the characters, Shanaya was able to step into a world where, for a moment, the focus wasn’t on treatments or hospital visits—it was simply about being a kid enjoying something special.

Her smile that day said everything.

You could see how much the moment meant—not just to Shanaya, but to everyone around her. Disney has a way of bringing joy to children from all over the world, and seeing Shanaya experience that joy after traveling so far made the day even more powerful.

What made meeting Shanaya so special wasn’t just the setting—it was her spirit. She had a quiet strength and kindness that touched everyone who met her. Even in the middle of a difficult journey, she brought light into the lives of others.

Sadly, Shanaya has since passed away, but the memory of that day—and the memory of her—will always stay with us. The time we spent together at Disney became more than just a visit; it became a cherished memory that reminds us why these moments matter so much.

Shanaya’s story continues to inspire us. Her courage, her smile, and the joy she shared with everyone around her are things we will never forget.
