Heart of gold program
The purpose of the Heart of GOLD program is to raise awareness and funds for pediatric cancer research. Why GOLD? Because GOLD is the color for pediatric cancer awareness month, which is SEPTEMBER. Our kids are more precious than gold, and they deserve to be recognized. We strive to get students involved in initiating fundraisers to encourage “kids helping kids.” I was just a kid, only 16 years old, when I started Whip Pediatric Cancer. I hope to inspire kids throughout the nation that you are never too young to make a difference. If you have an idea, go for it. No idea is too small and can make a huge difference in the lives of people who are dealing with great adversity.
All funds raised through the Heart of Gold program go to the MSK Kids program at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. The funds are used exclusively to support breakthrough research for pediatric cancers.
How to Participate
Getting involved is as simple as the click of a button. Once you sign up, each FREE Heart of GOLD kit comes with GOLD paper hearts (quantity of your choice), one Whip Pediatric Cancer T-shirt, and one Whip Pediatric Cancer Bracelet. Each school is then asked to distribute the GOLD paper hearts to their students to decorate and return to school with a suggested donation of just 2 dollars. This also teaches students that they don’t need to donate hundreds of dollars to make a difference. Each dollar adds up. If there are 200 students in the school and everyone gives just 2 dollars, you raise 400 dollars. And if every school across the world raised 400 dollars, we would have a cure. If you are unable to donate, you can still help! Awareness is just as important. Each student who colors on a heart is now one more person aware of pediatric cancer.
You do not have to be a student to get involved in the Heart of GOLD program. Businesses have taken the initiative as well. Bring the Heart of GOLD program to your office, hair salon, doctor’s office, restaurant, and more. Get creative with it!!
