What is Skate for Gold?
Skate for GOLD is our most favorite day of the year. Reaching milestones for cancer patients and their families is something that never goes unnoticed. Being able to ice skate was a huge achievement and milestone for my brother and me. Our dad is a big-time hockey player and fan. Together, we wanted to share such a special part of our lives with families fighting the biggest battle of their lives as a family. Each year, the town of Huntington New York donates ice time at the Dix Hills Ice Rink. We invite families who have been affected by pediatric cancer at any point of their life to come out for a fun FREE day of ice-skating, face-painting, tattoos, photo booth, and of course, hot chocolate. Everyone you see on the day of the event is a volunteer. Over 100 youth ice hockey volunteers come out to assist the kids (and even the parents) ice-skate. This is a magical day. Some families never thought their child would ever walk again, let alone skate.
