Director of Smiles: Piper’s First Hospital Visit
Every hospital needs a little more light.
And that light came in the form of a 20-pound fluff ball named Piper.
Piper, our beloved service animal and official Director of Smiles, made her very first hospital visit and if you could have seen the faces she walked past, you would understand just how powerful a wagging tail can be.
Hospitals can feel heavy for several reasons:
- The air can feel thick.
- The days can feel long.
But then Piper trots in. She brings a specific kind of magic with her:
- Soft fur.
- Gentle eyes.
- A calm presence that seems to say, “You are safe. You are loved.”
She hopped onto beds, rested her tiny head on little laps, and let small hands bury into her fluffy coat. And just like that, the room shifted:
- Shoulders relaxed.
- Giggles replaced silence.
- Even parents who had been carrying the weight of the world smiled a little wider.
For many of these children, this is the first of many hospital visits. That reality is hard. But Piper reminds them that even in these halls, joy can still exist. Comfort can still show up. Love can still walk right through the door on four paws.
This was just her first visit, the first of many. And if today was any indication, Piper’s schedule is about to be very full.
Because wherever she goes, smiles follow.
Our Director of Smiles is officially on duty.
